When Life Says “No,” It’s Not the End—It’s a Reroute

I once heard Steve Harvey share how he went through years of rejection and even spent three years homeless in the late 1980s, sleeping in his 1976 Ford and making as little as $50 a week. On top of that, a teacher in 6th grade told him he’d never be on TV. He could have believed that, but he didn’t. Instead, he kept going and eventually got his big break hosting Showtime at the Apollo in 1993.

Think about Michael Jordan, too. He was cut from his high school basketball team. He easily could’ve quit right there. But instead, he took that pain, turned it into motivation, trained harder, and came back stronger. Now, he’s widely seen as one of the greatest basketball players of all time.

Life doesn’t always go according to our plans. Rejection can sting, and it often feels deeply personal. But stories like these remind us that every “no” isn’t the end of the road. It’s often just a delay, a detour, or a setup for a better “yes” down the line. It’s about continuing to believe in your path, even when you can’t quite see where it’s going yet.

If you’re dealing with rejection right now, try to see it as redirection. Keep your faith, keep moving, and trust that your purpose is still very much alive and unfolding, right on time. Your next chapter might be closer than you think.

And remember, you don’t have to go through it alone. Community matters. Share your story, your struggle, or your comeback. Let’s lift each other up and remind one another: there is no failure here, only redirection.
